Meet Tori! Tori is a sweet little lady. She was found as a stray with her two sisters and two moms. Yes, two moms! The three kittens were well cared for by their moms, and have had human contact from a very early age. The moms are extremely social, and have passed on those traits to the kittens. Tori is a little nervous in new situations, but she will cuddle up when she is picked up. She loves to play with the other kittens and will come running when the treat container is shaken :)

Here is the story of Tori and her family: On July 2nd, a stray cat showed up at the house of one of our volunteers. Feeling that she had found the best B&B in town, the next day she brought her whole family: another cat and three kittens! The family of five was taken in, went to the vet, and settled into their new life in a foster home. Both of the adult cats were nursing the three kittens, who were estimated to be about 7 weeks old, at the time. The cats were given names: Mama Emma, Mama Sadie, Tori, Callie and Dot.  Fast forward a few days. KGARL was contacted about a litter of six, one-week old, orphaned kittens. Since we had two nursing mothers, we decided to bring in the babies, as well! It took a few days to work out the system, but now, both Emma and Sadie feed the orphaned kittens! It is quite the sight to see. Emma and Sadie make a great team, and Tori, Callie, and Dot happily shared their moms with the little ones :)

If you would like to add one of our beautiful cats to your home, please visit http://www.kgarl.org/info/adoption to learn about KGARL's adoption process, and to submit an adoption application.

Adoption process

Submitting an application does not guarantee a specific dog or cat.  We strive to match the personality and needs of our foster dogs and cats to a family who will best fulfill those needs.  If a family is not approved for a particular pet, it does not mean they will not be a good pet owner, it just means that their needs and the needs of the particular pet don’t match. We do not adopt on a “first come, first serve” basis.

Once your application is received, the application process begins.  We will review your application, check your references, check with your vet (if there are other animals in the household), speak to a landlord (if you rent), and arrange for a home visit.

Once your application is pre-approved (meaning, we don't see any red flags based on our preliminary review of your application), the applicant may be invited to meet their potential family member at a location convenient to the foster family (usually at the King George Petco).  Adoptions will NOT take place at the meet & greet, this is just a chance for us to get to know you and for you to spend time with our animals. After the meet and greet, we will ask that you spend some time thinking over your decision and we will do the same.

After the application review process is complete (meet & greet with animal, home visit, reference/vet checks, background check, etc.), if all is acceptable to both adopter and KGARL and we all agree to move forward, we will schedule a day/time to finalize the adoption. The adopter will be asked to sign the final paperwork and we will collect the adoption fee (cash, check, or paypal are all acceptable).  At this time, you can either pick up your pet, or schedule a time to do so. Adopters will be required to schedule an appointment with their veterinarian of choice within 15 days of taking your new pet home.

Please note that we do not do same day adoptions. If you are applying for a popular animal (such as puppies, small dogs, or special breeds), it can take several days for our volunteers to reach a decision that is best for the animal. We understand that it's difficult to wait, but please don't email us multiple times a day to check on the status of your application. We are a very small group and the same people that are reviewing your application are also replying to hundreds of emails and Facebook messages. We are all volunteers and have full time jobs outside of KGARL, so any time spent replying to emails/messages is time we are not reviewing your application.
